For more than five years, Coach Demetris Angonas was a true cornerstone of Phoenix Basketball Academy. A dedicated coach, an active entrepreneur, and above all, a person who never compromised his pure love for basketball and for the children he guided.

Through his passion, commitment, and leadership, Demetris helped shape the identity of our academy, leaving behind not only achievements on the court but also lasting values that continue to inspire players and coaches alike.

Although he hasn’t been with the coaching team in recent seasons, his impact and legacy remain an integral part of Phoenix. We sincerely thank him for his invaluable contribution and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

Demetris Perdikos is a highly experienced basketball coach, renowned for his dedication to player development and his ability to inspire athletes at every level. With a coaching career spanning over a decade, Demetris has made a significant impact both domestically and internationally.

He contributed to the success of Phoenix Basketball Club from 2019 to 2024, coaching youth teams and the men’s team, helping to develop young talent and prepare players for professional opportunities abroad. Prior to that, he served as Basketball Coach at Panathinaikos BC Academies and Panathinaikos Women’s BC (2014–2017), gaining invaluable experience at Greece’s most prestigious club.

Since November 2021, Demetris has been Assistant Coach for the Greece Women’s National Team under the Hellenic Basketball Federation, contributing to the training, strategy, and development of elite athletes competing at the highest international levels.

Known for his discipline, leadership, and commitment to excellence, Coach Perdikos continues to shape the next generation of basketball talent, bridging Cypriot basketball with opportunities across Europe.

Vangelis Asonitis’ basketball journey is nothing short of remarkable. He began his development at Phoenix Basketball Academy in Cyprus, where his talent, discipline, and drive quickly set him apart. His potential soon opened the door to one of Greece’s most respected clubs—Peristeri BC—marking a major step in his path toward elite European basketball.

Now, Vangelis proudly wears the blue and white of the Greece U-16 National Team, representing his country at the prestigious FIBA U-16 EuroBasket 2025 in Georgia. Competing on the international stage is a dream come true—and just the beginning for this promising young athlete.

From local courts in Cyprus to the national team of Greece, Vangelis’ story is a powerful example of how hard work and determination can turn ambition into reality. The future looks bright for this rising star.

Stephanos Tigkas’ basketball journey is a testament to dedication, growth, and ambition. Joining Phoenix Basketball Academy at 14 years old, Stephanos quickly stood out for his leadership, skill, and work ethic. His development on the court earned him a move to Keravnos BC, one of Cyprus’ top professional teams, where he continued to grow as a dynamic and reliable guard.

Now, Stephanos proudly represents his country as a member of the Cyprus Men’s National Team, playing a key role in their historic participation in the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2025. His inclusion on the national roster marks a significant milestone—not just in his personal career, but for Cypriot basketball as a whole.

From local courts to the continental spotlight, Stephanos’ journey reflects what’s possible through perseverance, passion, and staying grounded in one’s roots. Cyprus will be watching proudly as he competes among Europe’s elite.

Stelios Sophocleous’ basketball path is defined by relentless commitment and passion for the game. Growing up in Paphos, Stelios made the daily journey to Limassol to train and compete with Phoenix Basketball Club, showing extraordinary dedication from a young age. Those long hours on the road, balancing school and sport, were a clear sign of the drive that set him apart.

His consistent effort and steady progress eventually led him to APOEL BC in Nicosia, one of the island’s most historic basketball clubs. There, Stelios continues to develop his game, now competing at a higher level and proving that every sacrifice he made was worth it.

From Paphos to Limassol and now Nicosia, Stelios’ journey is a powerful reminder that success isn’t given—it’s earned through hard work, resilience, and an unwavering love for the game. His story continues to inspire young athletes across Cyprus.

In 2023, Vassilis Petrides and the Cyprus Men’s U16 National Team celebrated a historic achievement by winning the FIBA U16 European Championship Division C, earning promotion to Division B and marking a proud moment for Cypriot basketball. By that time, Vassilis had already been living in the U.S. since 2022, pursuing the American Dream. At just 15, his outstanding performance on and off the court earned him an athletic scholarship to Hoosac School in New York, his first step into the U.S. education and basketball system.

Since then, he has excelled both academically and athletically, and his dedication has been rewarded once again with a combined academic and athletic scholarship to Goshen College, where he will continue his collegiate basketball career in the competitive U.S. college leagues. With role models like Eric McCollum (Goshen alumnus and 2025 EuroLeague champion), Vassilis is following in impressive footsteps. His journey is a powerful reminder that talent, dedication, and opportunity can open doors on the world’s biggest stages—even starting from Cyprus and landing in the heart of American college basketball.

Demetris Yiallourides began his basketball journey at Phoenix Basketball Academy in 2021, quickly earning recognition for his dedication, teamwork, and steady improvement. Over the years, he has been a key contributor to Phoenix’s Men’s Team and is regarded as one of the most promising U18 players in Cyprus.

In July 2025, Demetris and the Cyprus Men’s U18 National Team celebrated a remarkable achievement by winning the FIBA U18 European Championship Division C in Albania. Their victory also secured promotion to Division B—a proud milestone for Cypriot basketball and a reflection of the team’s commitment and hard work.

For the 2025–2026 season, Demetris will join Apollon Limassol BC on a one-year loan from Phoenix Basketball Club, marking an exciting new chapter in his development.
